A Little Perspective...

I was devastated on Thursday when my son called me at work to inform me that the sweet little kitty that we rescued a few weeks ago had died.

The sweet little thing had stolen my heart and I miss her terribly. I look out to where we buried her, wrapped in a blanket along with a package of her favorite treats, and find myself weeping. It's a sad shape I'm in.

Today I got a message from a friend of mine. He was apologizing for not having been in touch with me sooner. His reason was that his father had passed away...

BANG! That knocked me into perspective REALLY fast!
Yes, I still miss my precious little Harley, but at least I still have my dad!

When asked about things we want to do in our lifetimes, someone responded with this:
"Raise happy, confident, God and country loving children into productive members of society."

Sounds nice, huh?!
But this is most certainly NOT how I would wish to see my children raised.
I would prefer to raise my children to be intelligent and inquisitive, putting faith in FACT and REALITY, blindly following no one or nothing. I want them to not be sheep who scream "God bless America!" I would prefer to raise children who see themselves as citizens of the world rather than patriots of our nation. I would like to see them respect the beliefs of others without bending to them. I want my children to respect all creatures great and small. But most of all, I hope to raise children who measure their success in life not by how much money they make, but rather by how much joy they've brought to the hearts of others and (of course) themselves!

Sorry, Klaus, but this album is an epic FAIL!
I expected so much better than this. The riffs sound recycled. The lyrics are uninspired. The rockers sound like a desperate attempt to recapture the glory of Rock You Like a Hurricane. The ballads are, in a word, boring. Adding a guest female vocalist on The Good Die Young was, to me the ultimate musical sacrilege. Your final album should be yours, and yours alone. The only track on this album that I found to be memorable was Raised on Rock, the single track that was realeased before the album. Even it sounded a bit recycled...

What more can I say? If this is the best the guys can do, perhaps it is a good thing that this is their final album.

Do cars tend to break down in sympathy of one another?
Really! Michael had problems with the brakes on his car. His dad was going to fix them while he was away on a school trip. The car is all jacked up and ready to be fixed when dar-dar daddy realizes that he doesn't have a tool he needs to finish the job. He goes home to retrieve it.
Voila! HIS car breaks down!!!
Now I'm gonna have to tell Michael that his car probably won't be fixed until Saturday evening.
ARGH!!
At least I have one little bit of good news for him... His new phone arrived.

February 14 is Lupercalia, a major fesival from ancient Rome that was named in honor of wolves.
The festival was held during the peak breeding season for wolves. Wolves only breed once a year. Typically only the pack leaders produce the pack’s single litter of pups. The breeding season extends over February with the breeding pair exhibiting courtship rites (e.g. playing, howling together, physical bonding, etc) throughout the process. The alpha female gives birth about 63 days after she becomes pregnant. Born blind and helpless, the whole pack cares for the youngsters until they’re old enough to hunt on their own at about 10 months of age.

I played with him every time a certain family on my route had a package. I thought that he was their cat. He was not. They had merely been feeding him since his owner moved away and left him behind.
The day after I discovered this, I brought him into my home.
He sleeps with me. He eats with me. He follows me around.
All is good, but what would have happened to him if I hadn't been around to take him in?!
Should I ever happen to meet his former owner, I will slap her first and ask questions later...

The snow began tol fall in earnest at approximately 3PM. By 5:30 I could see this outside my window...

As I look outside now, I can see snow nearly to the top of the bumper of my car!
Oh,yay!
And it ain't over yet.
This is what the National Weather Service says that Old Man Winter still has in store for us:

Tonight: Periods of snow. Low 26F. Winds ENE at 10 to 20 mph. Additional snow accumulating 5 to 8 inches.
Tomorrow: Snow during the morning will transition to snow showers during the afternoon. High 26F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph. 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Did you know that the Canadian government allows for hundreds of thousands of seals to be killed in its annual seal massacre? Most of these gentle creatures are just babies, and many are skinned alive on the ice while still conscious!

With all eyes on Canada as it prepares to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, the country should end the seal slaughter now so that the Vancouver Olympics aren't tarnished.

What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep?
I remember pulling a few all nighters back in my college days. I'm fairly certain that I went about 48 hours without sleep a few times back then. I'm more of a cat-napper these days.

Is how old you look and/or how old you feel right now different from your actual age?
Most people think that I'm in my early to mid 30s when they meet me. Mentally, I don't think I've aged past 16... I'm 48.

A Vacation Week In Review

What does one do when one takes a week off work at the end of January?
Some lucky folks might head for warmer climates, but I don't have that kind of money!

This is what I did:

Went to the Improv to see Greg Proops!

This was the second time I've seen him in the past 12 months. He's a total hoot!

Vegged out for a few days, then went shopping for supplies for Micheal's birthday party. Along the way spent more than I should have on a beautiful Michael Schenker Flying V. Oh, but it brings me great joy!

Feasted on Island Buffet and fed the slot machines at Wheeling Island Casino with my oldest son and the estranged one.

Had the great birthday bash for Michael. I'm still starving. The little monsters ate all but one piece of pizza and everything else they could find!

There is still one day left to my off time, but I'm out of money.

I'm not sure if it could be classified as a true sitcom, but M*A*S*H was one of my favorite shows when I was a teenager. I still enjoy watching it in syndication from time to time.
